Located on the downtown Norfolk waterfront. Virginia's capital from 1699 to 1780, Williamsburg was the social, cultural, and political hub of Great Britain's largest North American colony. Before the American Revolution, Williamsburg was a proving ground for patriots such as Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.
