Frequently Asked Questions

On this page we will try to include everything you want to know about Virginia Beach and Holiday Trav-L-Park that's not covered on the rest of our site.

May we bring our pets? We allow pets at no additional charge. See rates and policies for the latest campground rules.
According to Virginia Beach law, during "the season" (Memorial day through Labor Day), no pets are allowed on the boardwalk or the beach in that area. You may walk a pet on a leash just about anywhere else in the city.
During "the season" pets ARE allowed on OTHER public sand beaches before 10:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m.
You must pick up and dispose in an airtight container or wrapper.

How do we get to the beach? We are the closest campground to the resort area beaches. We are about 1-1/2 miles from the end of the boardwalk/strip/resort area, 2.5 miles to our free private parking lot located 1 block from the beach. The distance is about the same to the public beach at Croatan, a residential area with free public parking. You may also get to the beaches via our off-street bike paths (also about 1-1/2 miles), or the city trolley which runs from the Holiday Trav-L-Park to the boardwalk and Atlantic Avenue every 15 minutes between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The trolley cost $1 one-way, with savings on full- or multiple-day passes.

How much time will we spend driving to see the sights? We are about 1 hour from Busch Gardens, Water Country USA and Williamsburg, 45 minutes from the Mariner's Museum in Newport News, and 25 minutes from downtown Norfolk, Nauticus and the Battleship Wisconsin.
We are less than 1 mile from the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Museum, Ocean Breeze Waterpark, and Motorworld Go-Carts, which is on the bike path and Trolley route.

What if we couldn't get a site with sewer hookup? Campers without sewer hookups have free use of our 3 dump stations. We also offer an on-campsite "honeywagon" tank flushing service for a reasonable fee per flush.

Does the campground rent RVs? We do not rent RVs, trailers, or tents. We only rent sites and cabins. If you wish to rent an RV that will be delivered to your site, we recommend Freedom RV Rentals, 804-798-3379. Please call them for rates.

How close to "primitive camping" can we get? The Rustic Camping area is a large wooded area in the forest (about 40,000 sq. ft.), just a short walk from our parking lot next to the campground gate. It is large enough to accomodate 10 "sites" of 2 tents and 6 people each, or 60 campers total with 20 tents total. There is a single water spigot in the center of the area, and several picnic tables that may be moved about. There is no electric service. Rustic Camping is not suitable for any type of unit other than a tent.

Do you have fire rings? We have raised fire pits on the supersites. On other sites you are at liberty to build a fire in any safe place; we do not have fire rings or set locations for campfires. See rule 13 on our Rates and Policies page.

How do we get online? WiFi wireless internet service is available throughout the campground. For WiFi, you must subscribe to Tengo Internet and they will be your Internet Service Provider (ISP) during your visit. We also have a telephone jack in the office if you wish to use your modem and your existing dial-up ISP. We do not charge to use this telephone jack. The nearby libraries also have computers available for free internet access.

How can we learn more about the Virginia Beach area? Websites of interest include www.beacheventsfun.com, www.vbfun.com and www.vabeach.com
The Chamber of Commerce will send a printed information package on request if you call 800-822-3224.

Located on Parks Avenue at the end of I-264, the main Virginia Beach Visitor's Center is a great place to stop and get information.

What is "the season" for swimming pools? In Virginia Beach we refer to Memorial Day (the last Monday in May) through Labor Day (the first Monday in September) as "the season" during which you can always find an open pool at Holiday Trav-L-Park. We use the words "open seasonally" to refer to that general time and to give ourselves a little flexibility, mainly to work with rare but occasional foul weather. The main pool opens in mid-April, 2 more pools open near Memorial Day, and the 4th pool opens in mid-June. Our pools are not heated, but nearby Virginia Beach recreation centers have heated pools open year-round.

Can you tell us more about the famous jets? It is impossible to determine the schedule of the military aircraft that fly over Virginia Beach. They fly mainly during the day, and very little at night. You can never tell if aircraft will be active during your Virginia Beach vacation. They can be momentarily loud enough that you must shout to be heard, but that level of noise is infrequent. Many days may go by with no noise at all. Many vacationers find these modern aircraft fascinating. There are some very good observation areas near the Holiday Trav-L-Park.

May we pay in Canadian funds? A deposit in US dollars will be required when you make a reservation, and the balance may be paid on arrival in Canadian currency. Contact us for current exchange rates and further details.
